Notification: Common Entrance Test - CET 2007

• Applications are invited from eligible candidates from Karnataka including the wards of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants for registration for the ‘Common Entrance Test 2007’ for admission to first year Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga / Engineering / Technology / Architecture courses for the seats to be notified by the Government in the professional educational institutions in the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2007-2008.
• The merit will be determined in accordance with the provisions in the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006. A candidate should compulsorily appear for PCB subjects in case of Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses and PCM subjects in case of Engineering / Technology courses in the Common Entrance Test conducted by the CET Cell. For admission to Architecture course the candidate should compulsorily appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture.
• ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY :
  • For Medical / Dental courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGY as optional subjects and with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and have obtained at least 50% of the aggregate marks in the PCB group and should secure not less than 50% of marks taken together in PCB subjects in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of the aggregate in PCB group in both qualifying examination and Common Entrance Test.
  • For Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGY as optional subjects with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and obtained at least 50% of the aggregate marks in the PCB group, irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of the aggregate in PCB group in the qualifying examination. For admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st December 2007.
  • For Engineering and Technology courses, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent exam with PHYSICS & MATHEMATICS along with CHEMISTRY / BIO-TECHNOLOGY / COMPUTER SCIENCE / ELECTRONICS / BIOLOGY as optional subjects with ENGLISH as one of the languages of study and obtained at least 45% of the aggregate marks in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of the aggregate marks in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.
  • For Architecture course, the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent exam with MATHEMATICS as a compulsory optional subject and obtained at least 50% of marks in aggregate in all the subjects in the qualifying examination and should compulsorily appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) and score a minimum of 40% in NATA. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 45% of the aggregate marks in all subjects in the qualifying examination and 35% score in NATA.
  NOTE :
  • Other Backward Classes means the reserved categories such as Category - 1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B for the purpose of reservation.
  • A candidate who had obtained a seat in any discipline through the CET Cell in any of the previous years will not be eligible to appear for the Common Entrance Test - 2007 for selection of a seat in the same discipline. Such candidate will immediately forfeit the seat selected by him during the previous years, upon selection of a seat in a different discipline during this year.

    IMPORTANT : The Merit list of candidates for admission to Medical and Dental courses will be determined only on the basis of marks obtained by candidates in PCB subjects taken together in the Common Entrance Test. For Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga / Engineering / Technology courses, the Merit list will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the respective optional subjects, in both qualifying examination and the Common Entrance Test taken in equal proportions. For Architecture course, the Merit list will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in both qualifying examination and NATA taken in equal proportions.

• SUPPLY OF BROCHURE WITH APPLICATION FORM : Brochure with application form will be supplied through the schools and colleges located within the State of Karnataka in which the candidates are studying 12th standard or 2nd PUC examination upon submission of a Demand Draft for Rs. 550/- to the Principals in advance, drawn in favour of "The Special Officer, CET Cell, Bangalore" payable at Bangalore and Rs. 400/- for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Category - 1. The last date for submission of Demand Draft to the Principals of Schools and Colleges within Karnataka will be 07-02-2007. Application forms and brochures are expected to reach the respective schools and colleges by 20-02-2007.

  The repeater candidates and ex-students who have passed the qualifying examination within the State of Karnataka before 2007 and the Karnataka candidates residing outside Karnataka (including Horanadu, Gadinadu and other Karnataka candidates) who are studying or who have studied 12th standard or equivalent exam and appeared for examination outside the State of Karnataka, within the territory of India, can procure the brochure with application form by ‘Speed Post’, by sending a self-addressed cloth-lined envelope of size 25cm x 30cm along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 650/- drawn in favour of "The Special Officer, CET Cell, Bangalore" payable at Bangalore (The repeater candidates and ex-students of Karnataka who belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Category - 1 should send a Demand Draft for Rs. 550/- along with a copy of the caste certificate) and the Karnataka candidates residing outside India can get the brochure with application form by sending a demand draft for Rs. 3000/-. The contents on the self-addressed envelope should be in English or Kannada language only. The cover in which the demand draft and self-addressed envelope are sent should be boldly superscribed with the words "REQUEST FOR CET - 2007 BROCHURE" and should be sent to the following address of the Special Officer by ‘Speed Post’ ONLY. The CET Cell will not take responsibility for the envelopes sent through courier or given in person or through any other private arrangement and also for incomplete and insufficient address on the envelope. The last date for submission of Demand Drafts by ‘Speed Post’ to CET Cell will be 09-02-2007. Such candidates can expect the Application form and brochure from the CET Cell by 20-02-2007.

Important points related to Common Entrance Test - CET 2007 - 08

• The Common Entrance Test - 2007 will be held on only ONE day i.e., on 9th of May 2007 in three different sessions i.e., Physics & Chemistry in one paper in one session in the morning for 120 marks and 120 questions with 150 minutes duration between 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. ; Mathematics in one session in the afternoon for 60 marks and 60 questions with 80 minutes duration between 2.00 p.m. to 3.20 p.m. and Biology in one session in the afternoon for 60 marks and 60 questions with 80 minutes duration between 4.00 p.m. and 5.20 p.m.
• All the candidates are required to compulsorily affix their LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION within the space provided on the backside of the application form along with their full signature. The filled application forms that do not possess the LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION of the candidate will not be scanned and the admission tickets in respect of such candidates will not be issued.
• After completion of each session of the test, all the candidates should compulsorily affix their LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION in the space provided on the bottom portion of OMR answer sheet along with their signature. The OMR answer sheets that do not possess LEFT HAND THUMB IMPRESSION of the candidate will not be scanned and the results in respect of such candidates will not be published.
• It has been decided to complete the seat selection process before 31st of July 2007. In order to achieve this target and also in order to start the classes by 1st of August 2007, it has been decided to change certain procedures in the conduct of Casual vacancy round. Wherein,
  • the candidates who have selected Concessional fee seats during the Admission round will not be eligible for selection of a Concessional fee seats again during the Casual vacancy round.
  • the candidates who have selected Higher fee seats during the Admission round will not be eligible for selection of a Higher fee seats again during the Casual vacancy round.
  However, there will be NO CHANGE in the conduct of Admission round for Medical, Dental, Indian System of Medicine & Homoeopathy, Engineering, Technology and Architecture courses.
• Every year, the availability of seats are being published through the issue of Daily bulletins and hosting the same on the CET website at least four times a day.
  This year, it has been decided to host the availability of seats on the CET website once in half an hour besides issue of Daily bulletins at regular intervals. With this, the candidates can browse and down load the availability of seats from time to time
• The candidates who are studying 2nd PUC / 12th standard within Karnataka should procure the ‘CET 2007’ application form cum brochure through the Principals of their respective Schools and Colleges.
• The candidates who have already passed their 2nd PUC / 12th standard before 2007, Repeater students, Ex-students and the candidates residing outside the State of Karnataka should procure the ‘CET 2007’ application form cum brochure through ‘Speed Post’ directly from the CET Cell.
• The CET Cell will not conduct Aptitude Test for admission of candidates to Architecture course. However, the candidates who wish to opt for Architecture course should compulsorily appear for NATA Test conducted by the Council of Architecture and should submit a certificate indicating their NATA SCORES to the CET Cell either in person or only through ‘Speed Post’. The candidates who do not appear for NATA Test and the candidates who do not submit their NATA scores to the CET Cell, will not be eligible for selection of Architecture seats.
• All the candidates claiming eligibility for Government seats under various eligibility clauses including the Horanadu Kannadiga candidates and other candidates who have studied both within and outside the State of Karnataka, should COMPULSORILY produce their STUDY CERTIFICATES, when they come for seat selection process.
• In case of candidates claiming eligibility under Horanadu Kannadiga quota, it is mandatory that the father of the candidates should have been born in Karnataka and mother tongue of both father and candidate should be Kannada, Tulu or Kodava. Provided that the candidate shall undergo a Kannada Language test to establish his ability to speak, read and write Kannada.
• In the case of a candidates who cancels / surrenders the seat selected in the Admission round before the turn of such candidates during the Casual Vacancy round, it has been decided to forfeit 50% of the fee paid in respect of Concessional fee seats and 20% of the fee paid in respect of Higher fee seats and refund the remaining amount to the candidates.

Casual Vacancy Round

Now, the Casual Vacancy Round seat selection process for Medical / Dental / ISM&H / Engineering / Architecture courses will commence from 25-07-2007. The revised schedule of Casual Vacancy Round will be notified shortly. The candidates are hereby informed to attend the casual vacancy round as per the new schedule. All the candidates, who have attended / not attended, selected / not selected any seat, reported / not reported to the colleges are eligible to participate in the casual vacancy round.

The candidates who have selected seat, during the admission round and not reported to the respective colleges, the last date of admission printed on the admission order will be extended on the day of their turn during the Casual Vacancy Round, if the candidates likes to retain the same seat.

Questions and Answers regarding Casual Vacancy round

Q.2. I have selected Medical/Dental/ISMH/Engineering Seat, but not reported, weather my seat is cancelled or the date can be extended?
Ans: Those who have selected the Medical/ Dental/ ISMH/ Engineering seat in the admission round are eligible in the casual vacancy round, whether reported to the college or not. If you select another seat during casual vacancy round, the computer automatically cancels the seat already taken in the admission round and also transfer the full fee amount paid during admission round without any penalty or deduction of fees. If you will not select any seat during the casual vacancy round, the old seat will remain in your name, on that day the date of admission printed on the admission order will be extended. (Candidates need not to worry about the extension of date and seat will not be cancelled.)

Q.3. If I select a seat in casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, reporting or not reporting can I attend for casual vacancy Engineering/ Architecture round?
Ans: The candidates who are holding a Medical/ Dental seat and also who select Medical/ Dental seat during casual vacancy round are not eligible to participate in ISMH/ Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round. If such candidates wishes to participate in the ISMH/ Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round should invariably surrender their Medical/ Dental seat on or before their turn comes in the Medical/ Dental casual vacancy round. Similarly, a candidate holding ISMH seat during casual vacancy round or confirms the ISMH seats selected during admission round will not be eligible to participate in Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round. If such candidates wishes to participate in the Engineering/ Architecture casual vacancy round should invariably surrender their ISMH seat on or before their turn comes in the ISMH casual vacancy round.

Q.4. I have participated in the Engineering admission round and not selected any seat, can I attend to the casual vacancy round of Engineering/ Architecture?
Ans: All Engineering rank holders are eligible to participate in Engineering casual vacancy round. Candidates who have selected or not selected a seat / attended or not attended during casual vacancy round are eligible in the casual vacancy round of Engineering as per their merit and schedule. And those who are holding Medical/ Dental/ ISMH seat are not eligible to participate in the casual vacancy round of engineering/ Architecture.

Q.5. I have selected a seat in admission round in Medical/ Dental/ ISMH /Engineering /Architecture and attending casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental/ ISMH/Engineering /Architecture, if I will not select any seat and cancels the seat, how much fee amount will be deducted?
Ans: Candidate can change the college or course or place, subject to availability of the seats during his turn comes in the casual vacancy round, the seat selected during the admission round will get automatically cancelled if he/she select a new seat and will be added to the board and that seat will be offered for next eligible candidates on merit as per schedule. The fees paid by them during the admission round will be adjusted upon selection of seat, no fee amount will be deducted.
Medical/Dental:
If the candidate cancel the Medical/ Dental seat selected during the admission round, before his/her turn comes in the casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day. If the candidate cancel the Medical/ Dental seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of Medical/ Dental, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.
ISMH:
Similarly, If the candidate cancel the ISMH seat selected during the admission round, before his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ISMH, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day. If the candidate cancel the ISMH seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ISMH, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.
ENGG:
Similarly, If the candidate cancel the ENGG seat selected during the admission round, before his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ENGG, 50% of the fee amount will be forfeited and the balance amount will be refunded on the same day. If the candidate cancel the ENGG seat selected during the admission round, after his turn comes in the casual vacancy round of ENGG, 100% of the fee amount will be forfeited.
